AMIRANI
International Student Annual Film Festival
12-16 June 2008

 
The history of the Student short film festival “Amirani” began in September in 1978. This was running as biannual till the end of 1986. During his ten year of existence its became one of the important film events in Soviet Union and East Europe. The remarkable filmmakers like Otar Ioseliani, Merab Kokochashvili, Rezo Esadze, Leonid Gaidai, Nikoloz Maschenko, Sergei Izraeliani take part as jury members.

International Students film festivals named “Amirani” tie up with the myth about Amirani, which was born in Georgia, but Greek people called him Prometheus.

This year festival will be dedicated to the University 85 anniversary.

Festival aimed to invite students up comer filmmakers to take part in this festival, which will gave you access to meet with your colleagues from different countries, present their works, take part in master classes, workshops, debates and discussions.

Festival aimed to became a meeting point for the Film schools and Professors for exchanges of teaching skills and debating the problems.

All those events will happened in the beautiful city Tbilisi capital of ancient Georgia, where our University located in top center of the city. University’s two blocks located in both side of the river.

Best students and schools works will be nominated.

Festival Aims

* Provide support of students in their carrier development and professional skills.
* Popularization of the work of students
* Give the opportunities to create common sphere supporting cultural and professional development of both local and international level.
* Provide incentives for young artists to devote more attention and responsibility to obtaining their future professions and create new and worthy pieces of art

Festival looking for

* Development of the relation between the generations in film industry.
* To stimulate innovations in the educational process.
* Communication and exchange of skills between Georgian and Foreign young professionals.
* Further exchanges and co projects between film schools and professors.

Festival conditions:

Any student from film school or film department could sent his film
After general selection participant will be informed by the festival stuff
Film school already could proposed to the festival one our program from the school archive

If student’s film will be selected for a main program he and representative of the school will be invited by the festival and all local expenses in Georgia will be covered by host University

If your film won’t be not selected for the general screening, you already could take part in it personally – you will be charged registration fee 200 Euro

In case if you are member of CILECT or ELIA you will be charged only 150 Euro

During the festival by the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University will organized two round tables for professors and students

Exchange and co-projects between film schools

During the festival by the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University will organized Master classes of Georgian and Foreign professors, presentations of new study books.

2007 edition
After around 20 year, after transition and turbulence times Shota Rustaveli Georgian State University of Theatre and Film restored his own International Student Film Festival, which was held in June month of 2007.

Festival was organized in cooperation with SILECT and ELIA. In the festival took part over16 different schools from over than 14 countries.

Festival opening night was on 14th of June.
For the festival selection committee selected over 50 films, which was shown during 3 working days and attended over 700 spectators.
Closing night and award ceremonies was on 17th of June, followed with the concert.

Every night by the students of the University and invited guests at the II block of the University was operated professional night club with special music programs.

The Jury members were professors of the University:
Mrs. Nino Mkhedse, Professor, Film Critic Speaker of the Senath of University
Mr. Rezo Esadze, Professor of Film and Media Department, Director
Mr. Sandro Vakhtangov, Professor of Film and Media Department, Director

Festival has 5 nominations

During the Festival was presented two master classes by the Jury members, professors Mr. Rezo Esadze and Mr. Sandro Vakhtangov.
